Clay Project 2012/2013

This project is a work in progress. It hasn't been fired or completely painted yet, however, it should be finished relatively soon. What I did was make a small box. I'm not quite sure what I plan to use it for, but I will be honest, I was in somewhat in a hurry and needed something I could complete efficiently and quickly to kind of get back into the groove of things with the class. Which I did and it looks actually pretty well shaped. I ended up painting the box mint green, and have been in the process of painting small pink daisies all over it. I'm not sure how it will end up looking after being fired but I'm really hoping the paint colors don't blend and it ends up having a clean/ fresh appearance.

Three Steps to Abstraction Project

       This project was very time consuming and not my favorite. However, anything with painting seems to take twice as long as just simply sketching something. I am not sure if I really like the outcome of the piece. Each picture to me looks different which really bothers me. I am a perfectionist and it sometimes leads to over criticizing my projects. I know that I will never be perfect but I try and get my projects to look as close to perfect as possible. If I could redo this project, I would pick something entirely different to paint. I don't really care for how this project looks. I like the background on this painting though, it helped out the picture a lot and made it pop off the page more.
        Overall, I feel I could have done better with this assignment. This project brought something to my attention and taught me something I didn't really know yet until now : I really prefer sketching!

Gesture Drawing Sketches

This project is probably my second favorite drawing I have ever done aside from the Woody Skeleton drawing I drew last year. This picture is one I will probably end up putting in a frame and taking to fair to win awards on it! The hardest thing about this project was the wrinkles in the clothing. Without wrinkles, the clothing looks very two dimensional. My favorite thing about this picture would have to be the hair of the models. Hair is something that is very difficult to draw and I think I executed it very well for the first time I had ever drawn hair.The shading took a long time and the hands caused me some grief but overall, this piece turned out very nice and like I said before, it is one of the best I have ever created, or at least I think!

Mixed Media Skeleton Drawing

This project was my favorite so far! It was really fun to see everything come together. At first I was somewhat iffy about how it looked but I think I did a good job shading and bringing it together took look very realistic and three-demensional. My favorite part about this sketch is the jaw lines. I take pride in them because last year I wasn't able to draw a skeleton's jaw to save my life! :) If I could change something it would be to make the eyes a bit larger and to make the spine look like it did on my rough draft. That's how it usually happens though. Nothing ever looks like it did on the original copy! Overall, I was very happy with the results I got from this project. I think My best pieces of art have come from sketching the human skeleton...hmmm, weird! :)

My Painted Halloween Pumpkin!

This project was very enjoyable. I liked the fact that we had a lot of freedom. It took me a while to pick out something to paint but after changing my idea multiple times, I finally settled on doing somewhat of a duo with Kegan Lamentola by painting Sally from The Nighmare Before Christmas, while he painted Jack from The Nightmare Before Christmas. These pumpkins were supposed to be displayed somewhere around town together, however Kegans pumpkin ended up at River Rock Bar and Grill, while mine ended up in a funeral home, which is quite coincidental...haha. My pumpkin turned out to look just like Sally's picture I was going off of and I was happy with my finished product. One thing I would change if I could though would be the color of her and her hair (which is actually yarn). She is not THAT blue in the movie. She's actually supposed to be a really faint white/blue and her hair a burgundy color. However, I worked with the supplies I was given and couldn't be happier with how it turned out! :)

Antique Stool Drawing

This project was the most difficult the class has done so far! With objects like this, when drawing a picture of them, shading is crucial. If you don't shade well enough, the picture looks two demensional and flat. I tried my best to shade and make it look nicely with the time I was given, however, I could have focused on more of the details that were really carved in the wood that my picture is lacking. One thing I like about this picture is the legs. They look very similar to the actual legs of the actual stool. Overall, This wasn't my favorite project we did but I think this project turned out nicely with as much time as I put into it!

Line-Adjective Drawing

This project turned out very nicely. It was easy to pick out what adjectives fit me well, however, figuring out what line patterns to draw for each was another story. This project wasn't supposed to be difficult but since it was me who did created this project it took me twice as long as everybody else. One thing I really like about this project is how the lines fit the adjectives to a "tee". However, if I could change anything about this project it would be the "brave" picture. I think I could have come up with something a little more creative. Overall, it was a successful project.
