Gesture Drawing Sketches

This project is probably my second favorite drawing I have ever done aside from the Woody Skeleton drawing I drew last year. This picture is one I will probably end up putting in a frame and taking to fair to win awards on it! The hardest thing about this project was the wrinkles in the clothing. Without wrinkles, the clothing looks very two dimensional. My favorite thing about this picture would have to be the hair of the models. Hair is something that is very difficult to draw and I think I executed it very well for the first time I had ever drawn hair. The shading took a long time and the hands caused me some grief but overall, this piece turned out very nice and like I said before, it is one of the best I have ever created, or at least I think!

Mixed Media Skeleton Drawing

This project was my favorite so far! It was really fun to see everything come together. At first I was somewhat iffy about how it looked but I think I did a good job shading and bringing it together took look very realistic and three-demensional. My favorite part about this sketch is the jaw lines. I take pride in them because last year I wasn't able to draw a skeleton's jaw to save my life! :) If I could change something it would be to make the eyes a bit larger and to make the spine look like it did on my rough draft. That's how it usually happens though. Nothing ever looks like it did on the original copy! Overall, I was very happy with the results I got from this project. I think My best pieces of art have come from sketching the human skeleton...hmmm, weird! :)

My Painted Halloween Pumpkin!

This project was very enjoyable. I liked the fact that we had a lot of freedom. It took me a while to pick out something to paint but after changing my idea multiple times, I finally settled on doing somewhat of a duo with Kegan Lamentola by painting Sally from The Nighmare Before Christmas, while he painted Jack from The Nightmare Before Christmas. These pumpkins were supposed to be displayed somewhere around town together, however Kegans pumpkin ended up at River Rock Bar and Grill, while mine ended up in a funeral home, which is quite coincidental...haha. My pumpkin turned out to look just like Sally's picture I was going off of and I was happy with my finished product. One thing I would change if I could though would be the color of her and her hair (which is actually yarn). She is not THAT blue in the movie. She's actually supposed to be a really faint white/blue and her hair a burgundy color. However, I worked with the supplies I was given and couldn't be happier with how it turned out! :)

Antique Stool Drawing

This project was the most difficult the class has done so far! With objects like this, when drawing a picture of them, shading is crucial. If you don't shade well enough, the picture looks two demensional and flat. I tried my best to shade and make it look nicely with the time I was given, however, I could have focused on more of the details that were really carved in the wood that my picture is lacking. One thing I like about this picture is the legs. They look very similar to the actual legs of the actual stool. Overall, This wasn't my favorite project we did but I think this project turned out nicely with as much time as I put into it!

Line-Adjective Drawing

This project turned out very nicely. It was easy to pick out what adjectives fit me well, however, figuring out what line patterns to draw for each was another story. This project wasn't supposed to be difficult but since it was me who did created this project it took me twice as long as everybody else. One thing I really like about this project is how the lines fit the adjectives to a "tee". However, if I could change anything about this project it would be the "brave" picture. I think I could have come up with something a little more creative. Overall, it was a successful project.

Op Art Project #2

The picture of this project was not available to me on Drop Box, but I will talk about it anyways. This project wasn't one of my favorites. I think this was mostly because I do not prefer to use markers. I think sketches look better. This project was time consuming and didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. Again, I think it was because marker was used, but it's not like you could use pencil on a project like this anyways to get the same effect so it's understandable. I had a few little mistakes where I got out of the lines and some pink marker was in the yellow areas but that's okay, I'm not a perfect person and I make mistakes. Overall, this project turned out okay but I would prefer doing something else involving drawing.

Op Art Project #1

This project was fun. I like just letting my drawing utensil just go and do whatever it wants to. This is what this project allowed me to do. After one little section on the paper, I'd move onto the next and think, "hmmmm, what pattern could I do next?" then I would just keep going. At first I didn't think it would turn out very nicely but it did. If I could change one thing it would be making the squiggly area darker, just so there is more of a balance between white and black. This project was fun to do though! I like projects like these because if you mess up, you can hardly notice! :)

Magazine Reflection

This project took me maybe two class periods. It was very easy and quick to do. What I'm really proud about this piece, would be the hand of the person dipping the "Scoop" chip into the dip. Hands are very hard to do and since this picture had a hand in it, it made me very uneasy and nervous! When I was done, however, it turned out very nicely! I was really excited! The thing I would change about this picture would be the salsa in the bowl. I didn't know how to make the effect of salsa, so I just shaded a bit more in that spot. It still looks really good for not taking very much time on it. I like doing projects like these and would do one again if I had to.

Water Color Project

This project was my next favorite after the Character Skeleton. This project also took me a very long time to do. Water colors are very difficult but fun to work with. It was a challenge but I like challenges. Something I would change about this piece would be the moon in the sky in the third lighthouse. It didn't turn out the way I wanted it to but I wasn't expecting perfection. The part I like most about this piece would be the middle lighthouse. It is very clean looking and I like how the cloud in the sky turned out. I also like the sky in the first lighthouse. It was really fun to do. Overall, this project was very enjoyable and turned out amazing!

Pop Art Sculpture

This project was very fun. Amanda Corder and I worked together on this piece and made a big Nike 3-D icon sculpture. I would have posted a picture but I did not have the option too (the picture was not on Drop Box), but I can explain it just as well to give you a visual. The sculpture was all black in color, and then Amanda and I added silver sparkles. It looked really sharp and nicely done. My favorite part of the project was the thinking of something to do. I know that may sound weird, but there were SO many possible things we could have chose to make a sculpture of and I like having many options. The hardest part of this project would have to be restarting the next day because the tape we were using kept falling off, therefore, the cardboard base of our sculpture kept falling apart. All in all, this project looked really cool and I had fun working on it.

Character Skeleton

This project was my all time favorite. However, it was very time consuming. I like doing projects where I have the picture in front of me and I have to free hand the same picture. It's difficult but the results always look so good! My favorite part about this piece would be everything. I think this project probably took a total of about maybe....2 weeks? I had to include many details in this drawing because even the simplest little detail could make it or break it. Shading made this whole piece come together. Woody's eyes look a little crazy and cartoonish before I added shading to create his cheekbones and demension under his eyes. After I added a bit of shading, he looked JUST like the real Woody. The skeleton was by far the hardest part. But the hardest part of the skeleton was the skull. This part of the drawing was very tricky and the jaw, before I drew it just right, seemed to be unattached and floating in mid air. In the end, I pulled through though and made it the best drawing I have done yet. I was very proud of myself after this project!

Text Collage

This project was very time consuming. It took me a very long time to finish and I think this is because of how hard it was to find the color words you were looking for. Blue was pretty common, however, orange and green text in magazines is not used as frequently. The thing I liked about this project is how the orange fish pops out. The thing I did not like was how the blue and green almost blend together.I should have known they would because they are next to eachother on the color wheel. But I suppose it's art and you learn from your mistakes and use past experiences to improve future projects. I think I did well and had fun doing this project.

Animation Cell: "The Little Sailor Boy"

This project was very fun to do. One of my favorites. It was difficult to do because I had to paint small things to add detail but aside from that it was pretty enjoyable and easy to accomplish. The thing I would change about this project would be how I lined it up. This sailor boy's foot is over lapping the barrel which isnt very realistic and it kind of looks like he is floating. It takes away from the quality of the picture. My favorite part of this animation is my little sailor boy's face. He's so cute and has alot of personality. Overall, I feel I did really well on this assignment.

Contrast and Composition

This would be another one of my strong projects. I didn't get out of the lines or Mess up really at all. I did these pieces on rough draft paper before I transferred them to final draft paper. This was the hardest part because you just couldn't get the same results you had on your rough draft paper onto your final draft paper. It took a while to do and took a very long to think of a composition but once I got going it was a breeze. The positive and negative spaces in this project are pretty even and I think this is what I did very well in the project. Overall, I feel this piece was another pretty successful one! :)

Working with Positive and Negative Spaces

This piece I feel was the best piece I have done so far along with my color wheel. Painting I think is my strong point. I have a pretty steady hand and I enjoy painting a lot. The best thing about this piece I think would be the letter "e". It has personality and gives my piece demension. The thing I could have done differently was probably make my letters more diverse. I feel they were too similar and if I had more ideas of text I would have gotten a little bit more creative. However, I feel I made this piece look very clean and professional looking. It took a while, but the time was worth it. I really enjoyed doing this project!

Interior Design: A Form of Art We Use Everyday

When you first walk into a home, what is the first thing you think? Color Scheme is probably the first thing that catches your eye. But what do you look at second? Maybe the furniture? The way the furniture is arranged in a home and the way a person makes their home flow is called interior design, and believe it or not, it's a form of art!
When someone was to ask you what you think about when someone says "art", some things that are going through your mind are probably: paint, color, patterns, designs, demensions, layout, textures, lighting, etc. Now think about this, how many things out of those that I had listed, involve the decorating of a beautiful household? The answer to that question is all of them. Interior design is a very important and commonly used type of art. However, it isn't always recognized as a form of art! In many areas, interior design is not the ideal career to go into. This is because in many smaller rural areas, people don't usually pay for other people to design their homes. Many people just choose to decorate their homes themselves. That is why an interior designer wouldn't make it out well starting a career in a small town where their aren't many people. This job is more ideal for the city life. But, if you are a landscape or achitectural designer, your chances for emplyment are probably higher.
To persue a career in interior design, many entry level jobs for interior design require an associate or a bachelor's degree. However, some states even license interior designers, which would look really good when trying to apply for a career in the interior designing field. The average salary for an interior design specialist is $45,000 a year. This can range though because in areas where interior design is popular, a high salary for an interior designer is $82,000. Talk about a solid job! During this job you would be working for the most part along as far as the designing part. You will have to work with the home owners though to get their style and taste they are comfortable with and come to a steady compromise so they will like your design as much as you do. This may involve some altering of your idea you orginally came up with, but your job is to come up with a design for a person's house so that is fits their personality, is safe, functional, and makes the owner(s) happy! Some of the things you would be doing include: making the house flow nicely, find fun colors that coordinate to give the room demension and character, finding appropriate lighting and places to put the lighting to make the room feel most comfortable, and making sure the family has a safe but fun environment to live in. Other people you may have to work with are carpenters of all sorts. Carpenters who install carpet, do electrical stuff, who build things, etc. It all really depends on the project!
After researching more about this job, it's definitely something I would do as a career if I was interested in leaving the current state I live in to go to an area where interior design is more popular. it's something I have wanted to do since I was very little. I actually used to keep little note books full floor plans i'd come up with, make shoe boxes and cut out furniture from pottery barn megazines and make houses, as well as designing houses on the Sims for my little "families". However, I plan on staying around here and going to school to become a Physcian Assistant and maybe take some photography electives while in college to get a degree on that as well. Which is another form of art! :)

The Great Doodle Assignment

This project was pretty difficult which really surprised me! It was hard trying to decide what you were going to draw(doodle) next. That clearly was the hardest part of this assignment but other then that this assignment was pretty fun. I enjoyed being able to express your creativity without a specific set of intrustions. That is always nice. If I could go back and change something in this assignment, I would take out the ornaments and cupcake and draw different shapes to replace them. That's it though because other then that I think the project turned out pretty nice. I enjoyed doing it!

One Point Perspective Name Drawing

Oh boy! This project gave me SUCH trouble. I started by making my letters too boxy. I didn't want them to look that way. I also made my name WAY too small. This project was difficult and I would go back in time and make my name curvier and take up more room. I don't think this project turned out as well as I wanted it to but in the end I added cool box-like things to take up room and it made it look a lot better. I would rate myself a 7 on this project.

Two Point Perspective Alma College Drawing

I thought I did very well on this piece. I think that it could look a lot better though if we did'nt have to outline it in ink. As soon as i get one of those fine point pens/markers in my hand I suddenly cannot draw a straight line to save my life. Which shows when you look at the brick ledges toward the bottom of the page. I think that was the most difficult part of the drawing. Along with the railings to the stairs. I would probably go back in time and redo those. They were an awkward shape and I really didn't know how to approach them! I got the job done though and in the end, I'd say I did a pretty good job!

One Point Perspective Hallway Drawing

This project wasn't my favorite to be truthful. I felt that using colored pencils kind of ruined the project. I think I feel that way because I think that sketches always look better. That's my opinion though. This project was difficult because it was hard to include all doorways and to make everything fit where it belongs. You had to make it just the right proportion otherwise nothing would work out. I think I could have taken less time worrying about the size of the door at the end of the hallway and spend more time coloring and adding neater details. I learned from this piece of artwork that taking your time is very important to get a good result. Overall, on a scale of one to ten, with ten being the best and one being the worst, I'd rate myself an 8.

Color Wheel

The color wheel project was very fun. I really enjoyed the painting part of it. The part I would change about this project if i could is the "blue" portion of the wheel. I would change this over everything else because the blue paint i used was very runny and didn't set well on the paper. It was very thin and I applied at least three coats and you can still see the brush lines. I tried making the paint as even as possible and I felt I did a pretty good job at it. I really like how this turned out and it was pretty easy too, which was a huge plus.
